Sure enough, this creamy, pickley mixture was a fine spread on the little slices of bread. Oh, I wish I had two or three of these to myself! Excellent pastry and a good moist filling.Ī basket of sliced bread was also brought to the table at this time, accompanied by a little pot of what the waiter called mayonnaise and pickles. Sitting here also resulted in our not stinking – excellent!īlai and I started by splitting an empanada de carne, which was filled with a saucy spiced meat and olive mixture. Actually, I didn’t even notice this open air parrilla in the restaurant until Mirna dragged me over to see it – we were all seated in the front by the windows. Those same mixed reviews state that you’ll walk out of that restaurant smelling like the parrilla, the grill on which all the meats are cooked. I believe it’s been open for a couple years already and there are mixed reviews online but hey, we (me, Blai, Mirna and her husband Sasa) couldn’t get into our first restaurant of choice that night and steak seemed like a fine alternative. And I was going to eat like an Argentinean one Tuesday night a couple weeks ago at Constancia, an Argentian grill on the corner of Tower Bridge Road and Tanner Street, who bring in all their meat straight from Argentina. The Argentinians like steak no, scratch that – they LOVE steak.

In 1850 the young Brahms arrived upon the scene, and it was clear that there was a new and more conservative musical philosophy in the air. Schumann was to die only a few years later, after entering an insane asylum in the 1850s Liszt renounced much of his adventurous early manner, pruned his youthful works of their excesses, and developed new directions of style, many of which would be realized only after his death by musicians who took no account of his experiments. The death of Chopin in 1849 was not so signal an event for the world of music, but it, too, marked the end of an age. I think it is probable that Beethoven's death hastened the rapid development of new stylistic tendencies which had already made themselves felt and which, indeed, even influenced his own music. Perhaps only Chopin was not intimidated by the commanding figure of authority that Beethoven represented for generations to come. The death of Beethoven in 1827 must have given a sense of freedom to the composers born almost two decades earlier: Chopin and Schumann in 1810, Mendelssohn the year before, Liszt the year after. There is something for everyone out there and we can all take advantage of the impact of music to improve our happiness and well-being.He moved where the work was, living in upstate New York, Los Angeles, then back to Cleveland, spending long days and nights also performing for smaller symphonies out in Youngstown, Mansfield, Fort Wayne, Erie, and Wheeling.Īll the while, he was flying around the nation at his own expense, auditioning for scant vacancies at major philharmonics that stayed barely out of reach, sometimes for superfluous reasons beyond his control. Consider that music can also be a type of preventative care. The next time you find yourself frazzled, take a chance and see what classical music can do for you. Hopefully with a couple of YouTube searches, you’ll have idea of which composer you prefer! They have countless albums and playlists on most streaming services like Spotify and YouTube. This list is by no means comprehensive and it’s only a starting point. Check out his Prelude in C major to hear just how calming Bach can be. Personally, I’ve had friends favor Bach’s music for restoring order and peace to an anxious mind. Though his compositions can sound complex, they possess a certain serenity and wisdom that other music simply doesn’t have.īach composed largely piano, organ, and chamber music for the church in the 17 th Century, now known as the Baroque period. Perhaps more than any other classical composer, Bach is revered for his thoughtful, centering music. Crain has released several albums of piano music over the past 20+ years, so be sure to check them out. He technically isn’t classical, but many modern listeners equate “classical” to instrumental music, which is why I include him here. His melodies are lovely and simple, great for unwinding the brain before bedtime. Brian CrainĪs our list’s only living composer, Crain composes lullabies for piano. If you need to hunker down, focus, and get something done, Mozart is a great place to start. They have a strong sense of symmetry and drive, making them great for studying! They keep you awake, but don’t distract you as much as songs (with words) would. His piano sonatas are often intricate and lively yet maintain innate pleasantness and elegance. While I wouldn’t consider Mozart easy listening, much of his music certainly inspires focus and order. Mozart (Moht-zart)īetter known for his larger-than-life operas and symphonies, Mozart isn’t an obvious choice when seeking calm. Both subtle and exquisite, his music will make you feel like you’re floating through a dream. Fans of Clair de lune would be thrilled to know that there’s more where that came from, as Debussy composed a vast collection of music.Ī hero of the Impressionist movement of the late 19 th century, he’s revered for his flowing, spontaneous melodies and gently jazzy harmonies. This list would hardly seem complete without Debussy, composer of the infamous “Clair de lune”. Chopin provides an ideal end-of-a-long-day playlist because it’s pacifying but still interesting enough to enjoy. In other words, they’re crazy hard to play, but gorgeous to listen to. He is famous for his nocturns and etudes, and his piano pieces are designed to strengthen a pianist’s agility and musicianship. Chopin’s piano nocturns are simultaneously gentle and strong, soothing and theatrical. Think sweet lullaby meets Golden Age film score. Happy listening! Frederic Chopin (pronounced Show-pan) Please note that the “calming” or “relaxing” nature of music is somewhat subjective, and everyone has their own preferences. I also considered composers whose music promotes concentration and mental perseverance. To assist your musical exploration, here are five composers who each have a sizable collection of calming music. Though it may seem futile or even cheesy to try, don’t underestimate the power of music to reset a bad day, relieve a bad mood, or calm a stressed-out mind. When we’re stressed, scatterbrained, or upset, we often forget a unique remedy lying right at our fingertips-music! Everyone knows music can make us “feel good” or put us in a certain mood, but were you aware of its profound effects on the brain and our emotions? An effective network monitoring system on Linux servers should be based on three interconnected layers: general network health, incoming traffic, and outgoing traffic. It requires a systematic approach based on clear identification of goals, performance targets, and adherence to security standards. Network traffic monitoring is a crucial component of Linux system administration. This information can be used to distribute resources better.
Your server is not running on a super user(root( Linux)).When you publicize your server make sure of:.Your router configuration (if you want other people to connect over the Internet).Networking in general ( IP, DHCP, ports, etc.).Using the command-line and editing configuration files. In order to run your server and stay out of trouble, we highly suggest that you should at least know about the following: Running by the instructions below should not put you at any risk, but this is a wiki which everybody is allowed to edit, and we don't know about your system configuration, so we can’t guarantee you'll be 100% out of danger. Since you're about to run your own server, you should be aware of the possible dangers. Running server software on your computer without a clear understanding of what you are doing may make your system vulnerable to attacks from outside. Note: There is also custom server software available, which most large servers use, but these applications are not supported by Mojang Studios. Expect to pay monthly for this type of server since finding free hosting is a rarity, but you save the hassle of constantly maintaining a server and ensure it is always online for your players. If you still want to manage a server, but not from home, check out the Minecraft server hosting area of the Minecraft Forum or other websites. If you decide you don't want to host, but still want to play online, check out the public server options on a Minecraft server listing website.Satellite internet is also not recommended. Use a wired network instead, such as Ethernet. Having many players in a wireless network (WLAN / Wi-Fi and especially WWAN / mobile data) is not recommended.Hosting and playing on the same machine is also possible, if your computer is powerful enough. They typically have lower-end hardware and bad I/O performance in comparison to desktop computers. A Minecraft server does not need to be a high-end machine, but netbooks and notebooks don't usually make for good server machines.Probably, your best bet can be to look on the Internet for a guide on how to set up a server. This is not in the least bit fair, as their commercial pool tables play better than most of their own furniture-style residential-grade models. I have read many opinions about the best pool table to buy, and they almost always compare commercial-grade pool tables (like the Brunswick Gold Crown series, the Diamond Pro series, or the Olhausen Grand Champion pool table) to residential-grade "furniture style" pool table models from another manufacturer. Have you ever played on an Olhausen Belmont pool table or Reno model? Ever play on a Brunswick Allenton pool table? They're nothing to write home about, I assure you. They all have cheaper models that play poorly. This can be said of nearly every pool table manufacturer including Brunswick, Olhausen, and Diamond, etc. That being said I have played on a few which were not to the level of my satisfaction but those were their cheaper tables with MSRPs of less than $2500. Some are close to playing well enough to meet even the most critical reviewer's expectations. Most Golden West pool tables very good to great home pool tables. With all that being said, here is what I can say about Golden West pool tables. will have some bias for obvious reasons, even if they strive to remove bias from their observations. Also, resellers, employees, fanboys, etc. I have probably played on more than 150 different pool table models from over 20 different manufacturers in the last 35 years. Unfortunately, I have not done the latter type of double blind test and only the former (of being able to play on a lot of different pool tables right next to each other). Then I would need five to ten experienced pool players and professionals to rank the "playability" in a "blind test". To get a truly- (or even semi-) accurate feedback, I would need to cover all the pool tables with an almost "reverse" cover that covers everything but the playing surface and cushions. That means I get to go from pool table to pool table to pool table playing the same shots again and again, side by side.īut still, this is not the basis for truly empirical feedback. Because I have spent an obscene amount of money with him over the years, he lets me go into his warehouse floor and play on his pool tables all the time. I also live near a pool table dealer who sells almost every single pool table brand except the really obscure makes and models. Pool table technicians and engineers, as well as players with maybe 30+ years of experience could provide some qualified feedback for the community but even then, I would suspect that they would have to have some "consistent" and "empirically driven" way to provide a good comparative evaluation of the various pool table brands.Īt 50 years old, I have played pool now for over 35+ years. However, there are "qualified opinions" and "unqualified opinions". Almost all of it can be categorized as opinion, including my own. The internet is certainly filled with confusing and often contradicting feedback on what pool table brand is the best. Oh well, they already had a fit when I sold the vette -) My grandkids will be furious, as they have always considered the table to be one of the "heirlooms" they inherit when I croak. I don't know what the newer models are like, but if it is the same company in Oregon that made mine, you can't go wrong.īTW, the ONLY reason I am considering a sale, is because I was laid off last year, and am still "on the market". I hire professionals through local custom shops to disassemble and reassemble it, they have made numerous comments about the great quality of the table. I have had it for about 8 years, it has been disassembled and move across country twice, and is as rock solid as it was the day I bought it. if you know anything about quality furniture). Its a "Mission" style (Southwestern, in the style of Stickley from the American Arts & Crafts period. I have to say I do not know the folks that are nay-saying the quality, but I strongly disagree at least for my particular table. I did a search on Golden West and found this thread, because I am thinking of selling mine. AnyLogic 7.1, also released in 2014, included a new GIS implementation: in addition to shapefile-based maps, AnyLogic started to support tile maps from free online providers, including OpenStreetMap. It featured many updates aimed at simplifying model building, including support for multimethod modeling, a decreased need for coding, renewed libraries, and other usability improvements. The new version was focused on business simulation in different industries. The first version of AnyLogic was V4, because the numbering continues the numbering of COVERS 3.0.ĪnyLogic 5 was released in 2003. and any combination of these approaches within a single model. The tool was named AnyLogic, because it supported all three well-known modeling approaches: system dynamics, discrete event simulation, Agent-based modeling. The resulting software was released in 2000 and featured the latest information technologies: an object-oriented approach, elements of the UML standard, the use of Java, and a modern GUI. Development emphasis was placed on applied methods: simulation, performance analysis, behavior of stochastic systems, optimization and visualization. In 1998, the success of this research inspired the DCN laboratory to organize a company with the mission of developing a new generation of simulation software. The tool was developed with the help of a research grant from Hewlett-Packard (Commonly known as HP). This system allowed graphical modeling notation to be used for describing system structure and behavior. The Distributed Computer Network (DCN) research group at Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University developed a software system for the analysis of program correctness the new tool was named COVERS (Concurrent Verification and Simulation). This approach was applied to the analysis of correctness of parallel and distributed programs. In the early 1990s, there was a big interest in the mathematical approach to modeling and simulation of parallel processes. It took me way longer than an hour and ten minutes to watch this documentary because every time another name or face appeared on the screen, I had to pause so I could look them up because I didn't realize how many of these people were around the same age as Soleil. Sad seeing all the people she knew who sadly died way too young. I was happy when he showed up on True Detective S3 he was really good. Nice seeing Stephen Dorff when I was little I thought he was cute. You could do a whole documentary on that alone. I remember when he was 15 he was dating that girl in her mid 20s. They showed a picture of Edward Furlong at the end but he was left out of this. It seemed like he was in love with her maybe? I remember he was with Tatyana Ali for 3 years. The phone messages from Jonathan Brandis were sad. Dana Ashbrook from Twin Peaks showed up I had no idea she ever hung out with him. Wild seeing everyone I kept having to pause and go Omg it's so and so lol. It's great she filmed so much stuff honestly she was already doing what everyone does today. While bringing up the assault you could see how upset she was. Based off the stuff she wrote in her diary her relationship with Sheen is something she doesn't seem to be upset about. So I don't believe Sheen was the one who assaulted her. Yes Sheen was the one who took her to the baseball game she even called Sheen her "Mr.Big" I guess she was a Sex in the City fan. After she brings up the assault the screen said 6 months later and that was when Charlie Sheen entered the picture. She didn't name the person who assaulted her. Do we know who sexually assaulted her? It wasn't Charlie Sheen, right? Who was the older man who came back into her life and took her to a baseball game? Was THAT Charlie? As much as I love and appreciate the friends I've made as an adult, there is something about the people who knew you when you were a dumb 13 year old trying to figure out your place in the world that is special. I hope that reconnecting with so many of her childhood friends keeps them in contact. She mentioned it early on but she repeated it again near the end when she talked to BAG and said that as an adult she questioned how much of their friendship really existed and how much of it was in her head. Overall, this felt similar to Rob in High Fidelity going on a quest to find his ex-girlfriends, but Soleil had slightly different goals. Seeing the guilt and regret from the ones who are still alive. It was sad to see how many people in her friend group have already passed away. I also loved watching the adult versions of these teenagers reacting to seeing the footage afte r all these years. I also loved that the videos showed them being dumb teenagers doing regular teenage things like hanging out at each other's houses, going to amusement parks, driving around, drinking, looking for ladybugs. Hee, on a shallow note, I loved all the photos and videos because remembering those 90s fashions was hilarious. Even if it didn't result in Oscar worthy roles, it still allowed her to be comfortable in her own body and that alone was worth it. I'm glad she realized even as a teenage that a painful six hour surgery would result in letting her be who she wanted to be. I love that she documented so much of her life. Despite this, I love that she has so many videos and pictures that would not be out of place with a current day celebrity. We could read blurbs from the canned interviews about their favorite colors and how many pets they had but we didn't get to know them the way that you can today with social media, so this was like pulling back the curtain on so many people I grew up watching. In the pre-internet days, all we knew about these teen stars came from the carefully selected sound bytes released by their PR people to shitty publications like Teen Beat and People. I enjoyed hearing what all of these actors had to say about each other, about the industry, about their friendships, etc. This covered such a wide range of topics: growing up in the 90s, Hollywood (which covers another huge subset of topics), what it's like to be a teenager, reminiscing with your childhood friends about the old days, girls being sexualized, etc. |
